Lesson 4

Key enquiry question:

What responsibilities are associated with our rights?

Responsibility

Here is a Photo Story introducing the idea of responsibility. Watch this video with your Think Pair Share partner and as you're watching it, focus on the following questions. When you've discussed the questions with your partner, we'll discuss the idea of responsibility together as a class.

Focus questions:
  • Why do you think the young people wanted to prove the old lady was a fraud?
  • What rights does the old lady have in dealing with the young people?
  • When the old lady told the young people that it was in their hands, what do you think she meant?
  • What responsibilities do you have?
  • Can you think of some rights and the responsibilities that go with them?

Rights and responsibilities

With every human right comes an equally important responsibility.

In your groups, you're now going to research responsibilities and the rights that go with them. You will work in the same groups that you've been working on since we began this unit of work. The following resources should help you in your research. Remember to add any questions you may have to the feedback page and we can discuss them together.

Today's diary entry: What you find out about rights and responsibilities will be written into your personal blogs

Here are some rights and the responsibilities that go with them. Which do you think are the most relevant to you in school?

Children in this school have also been working on rights and responsibilities. What do you think of their work?

Take a look at this Glog based on rights and responsibilities. Do you think it'd be a good idea for one group to design a Glog for our Human Rights Day? Use the feedback page to share your opinions!
